Golden Panda Theatre
The Cultural Centre occupies a prominent position along an axis of cultural institutions, connecting the central business district (CBD) with the urban park surrounding Qinhuang Lake. The proposal is conceived as a spatial and cultural link between these contrasting environments, with a generous central atrium forming a public passage along the east–west axis. The building establishes a dual orientation, opening towards the lake and its natural landscape while creating a prominent civic entrance towards the city. This relationship shapes the overall composition, with the atrium conceived as an internal valley that connects the two environments and forms the social heart of the complex. The programme includes a major theatre, concert hall, multifunctional hall, digital cinema, education centre and exhibition spaces. These functions are organised into two principal volumes connected by the central atrium, allowing independent operation while encouraging interaction between different cultural activities. A distinctive, sculpted roofscape, inspired by the region's traditional architecture, unifies the complex. Its fluid geometry responds to the surrounding urban conditions, shaping the façades, entrances and public spaces. Facing Qinhuang Lake, a generous public plaza provides a setting for the annual film festival, outdoor performances and everyday civic activities. Framed by the sweeping roof, the plaza flows naturally into the central atrium, reinforcing the building's role as an open and accessible cultural landmark that brings together the city, landscape and public life.
