Tree
The design captures the negotiation between nature and the man-made environment. Spatially enhances the urban concept of the site, aligned with the axis of a long boulevard. As passersby approach along the boulevard, the object—a tree-like structure—gradually reveals itself. A charred tree torso, carefully trimmed and clad in glossy metal plates that cover its cuts. It adds intrigue to the location by presenting a mysterious object that, while familiar in shape and structure, introduces elements of surprise and mirrors the surrounding environment. The silhouette of the tree reflects its surroundings and the people interacting with it. In plan, the object takes the form of a triangle, defined by three trimmed planes. One apex, the more sculptural part, points toward the boulevard, while the opposite side runs parallel to the edge of the square, spatially concluding the boulevard. The combination of wood and metal—organic and inorganic materials—creates a hybrid character and references the concept of a cyborg: an organism fused with man-made materials. The ancient preservation technique of charring imparts a distinctive texture to the object, further enriching its visual and tactile qualities. The tree-like structure evokes ancient sculptures, particularly torsos of human figures, shaped and transformed by time. The design symbolizes the negotiation between nature and civilization, industrial development, and the transformation of natural materials into new forms. Images by 2DR studio.
